Dunkin’ Donuts Center Providence’s Civic Center is a formerly built indoor arena in the heart of Providence, Rhode Islan. Built-in 1972, it was a home court for the new basketball school of Providence Men.

In 1958, on a property in what later became Providence Place Mall, the concept of constructing a center was suggested. The project was planned to build jobs and economic benefits as a joint federal / state/city initiative. Nevertheless, the program failed because of the lack of federal funds.
In 1968 the general election in the United States resurrected the initiative again, and the elected Mayor Joseph A. Doorley Jr. held a special city-wide vote in 1969. If the sum was sufficient, an additional referendum was held and the project obtained a grant to start.

The Center was built on an old jewelry factory in 1972. A hockey game of reds Providence was played at the Opening Ceremony on November 3, 1972. The center was host to Frank Sinatra and Pink Floyds concerts, hockey games, and a variety of political rallies in its very first year.

The director of the Center is Ellerbe Associates. Dimeo Construction Company has named the contracts for building the center. The buildings cost $13 million and the refurbishment costs were roughly $80 million.
For different purposes, the Centre’s seating capacity varies. It holds around 11,000 spectators for concerts, while about 14,000 are accommodated for sports games.
